Mikael Eklund

MD/PhD Student, University of Turku

Mikael completed his MD in 2023 in University of Turku, Finland. In his current research project at Turku Brainlab. Currently, Mikael is studying connectivity-based modulation of brain dopamine function with transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) measuring the effect of the stimulation with 11C-raclopride PET. This methodology could be useful as a treatment for dopamine-dependent brain disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease. In addition Mikael is working on a systematic review and meta-analysis on how different interventions modulate brain dopamine function measured with PET. Mikael has also worked on movement disorders, focusing on Parkinson’s disease and parkinsonism under supervision of Prof. Valtteri Kaasinen. Apart from research, Mikael has taught assessing neurological status and the use of TMS in the Master’s Degree Programme in Human Neuroscience in University of Turku. In his spare time, Mikael enjoys various sports such as skiing, tennis, badminton and triathlon and is probably planning next expedition having already climbed Mont Blanc and sailed Transatlantic.
